Why Do We Memorize Verses?

Why Do We Memorize Verses?

Answer: We memorize Bible verses because we want to remember what God has told us. When we have the Bible in our head, God’s Word will be with us when we’re out playing, at the pool, or doing anything-it with us wherever we go.

Then, when we face a problem or a tough situation, we will be able to remember what God has told us to do. It’s also fun to memorize verses – then during the day, we can think about the verses and what they mean.

Key verse: Your words are a lamp to light the path ahead of me. They keep me from stumbling and falling. (Psalm 119:105)

Related verses: Psalm 119:11; 2 Timothy 2:15

Note to parents: Don’t make Bible memorization feel like a chore, and never use it as a punishment for bad behavior. Instead, make it into a game.

The goal is for children to enjoy reading the Bible and memorizing verses, not merely that they have a lot of Bible knowledge. Some good ones to start with include John 3:16, Genesis 1:1, and Romans 12:9.

Why Is The Bible In Two Parts Instead Of In One Part?

Answer: The Bible has two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament tells the story of the beginning of the world and the beginning of the nation of Israel.

It also tells about how the people of Israel obeyed and disobeyed God over many, many years. All of the stories and messages from God in the Old Testament lead up to Jesus Christ.

The New Testament tells the story of Christ, the early Christians, and the future. You can think of the Old Testament and New Testament as “before Christ” and “after Christ,” or as volume 1 and volume 2.

Old doesn’t mean out-of-date-it means that it happened before Jesus. But remember, even though the Bible has two main parts, it is all one book-God’s book.

Key verse: “You search the Scriptures, for you believe they give you eternal life. And the Scriptures point to me!” (John 5:39)

Note to parents: If your kids aren’t already familiar with the two parts, pick up a Bible and show them the Old Testament and New Testament.
