How Did David Fight Goliath If He Was So Small?

How Did David Fight Goliath If He Was So Small?

Answer: Although David wasn’t a big man or a soldier, he wasn’t afraid to fight the giant Goliath because he trusted in God, not in his own strength or in a soldier’s weapons and armor.

In fact, he wouldn’t wear the king’s armor when it was offered to him. David remembered that he had defeated lions and bears while protecting his father’s sheep.

David also knew that he would not fight Goliath in hand-to-hand combat; instead, he would use a sling and a stone. Also, David was about sixteen, not a little boy.

David trusted in God and knew that he had to fight Goliath because Goliath was mocking the armies of Israel and God.

Key verse: David shouted in reply, “You come to me with a sword and spear. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of the armies of heaven and of Israel.

I come in the name of the God whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45)

Why Was Saul Jealous Of David?

Answer: After Saul made David an army commander, people were singing, “Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands!” (1 Samuel 18:7).

It angered Saul that David had become so popular with the people; in fact, it seemed as though everyone liked David more than Saul.

This made Saul jealous. Saul knew that David was a better man – a better warrior and a better person.

This jealousy made Saul a very cruel and deceitful person, and he tried for years to kill David.

Eventually, God told Saul he couldn’t be king anymore, and after Saul died, David became king.

We must be careful to be content with whom God has made us and not become jealous of others.

Key verses: Of course, Saul was very angry. “What’s this?” he said to himself “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands.

Next, they’ll be making him their king!” So from that time on King Saul was jealous of David. (1 Samuel 18:8-9)
